The Cross Border Xpress connecting San Diego to Tijuana International Airport welcomed its 5 millionth passenger in a ceremony on Wednesday.

 Alicia Lopez Vergara Newton, who arrived at Tijuana International at 10:32 a.m. from Guadalajara, was greeted with bursts of confetti and presented round trip airfare to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo International Airport, in addition to other awards.

As part of the terminal-wide celebration, travelers passing through the facility were treated to complimentary beverages and a taco bar from Rubio’s Coastal Grill.

Opened in December 2015, the enclosed 390-foot-long bridge in Otay Mesa eases international travel by providing a fast way for ticketed airline passengers to cross between San Diego and the Tijuana airport.

It costs $16 one way and $30 for a round trip across the bridge. There is parking for travelers outside the facility.
