The Otay Mesa Chamber of Commerce recognized Co-Production International (CPI) with the award for Achievement in International Business at their annual ceremony last week. As a nearly 30-year-old business organization, the Otay Mesa Chamber of Commerce hosts an annual dinner and awards ceremony to recognize companies and their contributions to the region. This award highlights CPI’s decades of work in the region and for manufacturing in Mexico which has translated to thousands of jobs and a stronger economy for both sides of the border.
«CPI’s accomplishments throughout the years have had a noticeable and positive impact on the economy and on jobs creation for both sides of the border. Quite simply, its companies like CPI that makes this region a model for the world and reinforces the driving mission of the Chamber,» remarked Alejandra Mier y Teran, Executive Director for the Otay Mesa Chamber of Commerce. Situated near California’s largest commercial land port of entry with more than $38 billion dollars of trade on an annual basis, the Otay Mesa Chamber of Commerce provides its members with business resources and access to local and global markets.
In introducing the award, the Chamber highlighted that Mexico is the first or second largest trading partner for twenty- three of the US states. The Chamber recognized CPI for their work establishing manufacturing operations in Mexico for US companies throughout the years, most notably the recent expansion of ICON Aircraft’s new 300,000 square foot facility in Tijuana due to open this November. With a projected economic impact of $150 million dollars over the next 10 years, ICON Aircraft worked with CPI for site selection and initial recruitment, and will continue providing shelter company services to the innovative aircraft manufacturer.
«ICON Aircraft is a strong, phenomenal company. Working with our support network throughout San Diego and Tijuana, CPI was able to take ICON Aircraft’s requirements and get them exactly what they needed for their expansion. A project of this magnitude took a mere five months. After initially competing with Juarez and Queretaro, we were able to attract them to Baja and ultimately Tijuana. The unique approach to our business model allowed us to tailor solutions to fit their needs based on our commitment to service and existing relationships to get them up and running as soon as possible,» CPI President Enrique Esparza elaborated during the awards ceremony.
«One of the first memories I have is walking the factory floors with my father,» said Esparza, who now heads the company his father started in 1978. As a family business, CPI’s roots run deep in a region known for its global leadership in manufacturing. CPI’s partnership with ICON Aircraft has brought renewed excitement in Tijuana’s world class aerospace industry cluster boasting a nearly 50-year history with existing manufacturing mainstays such as Gulfstream, Eaton, Honeywell, and Lockheed Martin.
